Mint Julep

MINT JULEP

Makes 2 cocktails
Takes 5 minutes

Crushed ice (cubes are fine if you don’t have an efficient way to crush ice)
4 ounces bourbon
2 ounces mint syrup (recipe below)
1 ounce lemon juice
6-10 sprigs mint

  1. Gently wipe the inside and rim of two small rocks glasses or julep cups (8 ounces is preferable) with mint.

  2. Add crushed ice.

  3. Combine bourbon, simple syrup, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker or mason jar. Shake to combine. Pour evenly over crushed ice.

  4. Add 3-5 sprigs of mint to each glass.

MINT SYRUP

Makes 1¾ cups syrup*
Takes 1 hour, 10 minutes

1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed mint leaves

In a large saucepan, combine water and sugar. Cook over high heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved, 3-4 minutes.

  1. Remove from heat and steep for an hour.

  2. Strain into a mason jar and store in the fridge until ready to use.

*This makes more than you’ll need for just a couple cocktails. Save and use for flavored lemonades or other concoctions. It will store well in the fridge for a month.
